The Western Australian School of Mines was established on the Goldfields in 1902. Initially set up at Coolgardie it moved to new premises at Kalgoorlie in 1903.

The museum houses some 3000 specimens of minerals and ores as well as a replica of “The Golden Eagle”, an amazing 32 177 gram gold nugget discovered near Coolgardie in 1931.
