St Barbara’s Festival

  • Other Details

The annual Saint Barbara’s Festival in December is a popular event in the Goldfields calendar, acknowledging the relationship between the mining industry and the local community of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

St Barbara is the patron saint of mining and geology and a statue in St Barbara’s Square in Kalgoorlie tells the story of her martyrdom.

The Festival has in the past incorporated a Memorial Service in the square to commemorate those who have lost their lives in the mining industry.

The Festival is a unique celebration and a parade down the main street of Kalgoorlie is the highlight because it includes enormous pieces of mining equipment rumbling down Hannan Street. Community organisations and schools join in the parade watched by thousands.
