“Future generations, I am quite certain will think of us and bless us for our far seeing patriotism, and it will be said of us, as Isaiah said of old, ‘They made a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert” – Sir John Forrest

Wimmera Hill Lookout

  • Other Details

Wimmera Hill is a great lookout above Southern Cross which offers views from the western side of the town.

The farming and mining equipment suspended from the monument depicts the town’s past and present history.

The monument was erected to the region’s pioneers in 1988 to celebrate Australia’s bicentenary as well as the centenary of settlement in Southern Cross. Each night the monument is lit up by an arrangement of lights in the form of the constellation “Southern Cross”.
